About:

My main instrument is bass. I can play many styles on upright or electric bass. I have some limited skills on guitar, piano, violin and french horn. My band, NEStalgia, plays rock covers of Nintendo music. We had a full band for awhile, but lost our lead guitar player. I am ready to revive the band as soon as I get some more good musicians to join us.

Higher Minds

Traffic.mp3
About:
< = > Although formally conceived in the late nineties, HIGHER MINDS' deepest roots can actually be traced as far back as the mid eighties when the paths of the founding fathers originally crossed. Known today as MileSeven and Whyte Tyger, they roamed the coastal communities of San Diego until their love of hip hop gradually became more than just a spectator sport.

Joined in recent years by Stevie-b, HIGHER MINDS have surprised everyone (including themselves) with their rapid growth from such humble beginnings. Slowly but surely, word of the home town boys' unique sound is beginning to spread. With numerous San Diego performances logged and more to come, HIGHER MINDS are eager to expand their music and broaden their fan base. Aside from live events, they look forward to upcoming additions to their growing recording archives; from bootleg tapes to released albums, their respective ranges of skill and appeal continue to evolve with time and experience.

These days, as the demand for good music begins to rise, HIGHER MINDS plan to increase the supply until every last head in the city has been elevated. Once San Diego has been saturated, there's no telling where their music will take them. One thing is certain, however: HIGHER MINDS will continue to follow their own path as they stride towards the future with their feet on the ground and their minds in orbit. < = >

emv.3.mp3 is one part of an entire series of pieces based on the same sound origin. All of the sounds are produced in one way or another by the saxophone. This piece in particular is very influenced by minimalism, however the piece changes at a faster rate over time as opposed to a slow and gradual change that is common in the minimalist aesthetic. Although the compositional principle of emv.3 is very simple, based on a modal scale, much of the outcome is unpredictable and is unified by a constant pulse heard throughout.

emv.4.mp3 along with emv.3 are part of the grouping of pieces called Emu Series. This piece is rhythmically oriented. There are no melodies nor harmonies, just rhythms. As a substitute for these components each part is given a particular rhythm that evolves and dialogues with the other parts. The piece is heavily influenced by West African rhythms, although it's not a direct quote of it. This piece is meant to be used as a sort of "play-along" in which the performer (saxophonist) is forced to provide a coherent rhythmic statement while interplaying with the rest of the voices.

Focus:

Saxophonist influenced by numerous sources such as classical, jazz, avant-garde, electronic, and world music. Currently involved in the exploration of the electro-acoustical potential of the saxophone.

NEW VIDEO

FRONT MAN Brent Curtis:
"I've been playing guitar and singing for about 11 years now and been/had the band 'Misdirection' for about 9 of those years, BUT we started out first as a punk rock band, mostly surf punk. I was always writing acoustic style songs along with the surf punk songs, but never played them. Now as it turns out, that's all i play and the style I prefer.
Our CD I've been working on is half mastered, 7 down, 7 to go, and I hope to release by early summer. It will have our brand new video which is almost finished being edited as a CD - Rom on it as well as the 14 maybe 15 tracks, we'll see. And our website is under construction, should have something up in the next few days, some sort of splash page www.misdirectionmusic.com."

NWEAMO 2007: Details

The NWEAMO Board: Ryan Wise, Ian McNichol, David Hess, David McElroy, Brenden Beu, Young-Shin Choi, Rodrigo Sigal, Margaret Schedel, Craig Walsh, Massimo Massarotto, Joseph Waters

The Mission of NWEAMO: To forge connections between the composers, performers and lovers of avant garde classical music and the DJs, MCs, guitar-gods, troubadours and gourmets of experimental popular music. When there is no connection, both suffer: When classical music does not connect with popular culture, it becomes a music of experts, unable to reflect and contribute meaningfully in the broad marketplace of developing ideas and cultural experimentation. When popular music has no connection and communication with the classical it becomes naive and superficial, untethered to its historical roots and broad cultural underpinnings. A healthy cultural milieu celebrates both.

About:
SOUTHUNOYZ YUNG SIP, 7K, NOYZ AND 3-THIRDS These Southern artists are from the states of Texas, Georgia, Mississippi, and New Orleans. They came together after joining the Marine Corps. and fighting in Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003-2005). Each one fitting together like an intricate piece of a puzzle the members of SouthuNoyZ collectively bring an alternative perspective to the southern regions. Individually they bring a different yet important part to the group. “NOYZ”, the visionary behind the group, and probably the most experienced brings the quiet storm with his smooth RnB vocals. “3-THIRDS” along with “NOYZ” became the founding members of SouthuNoyZ. “THIRDS” brings the lyrist mentality and thought provoking yet clever word play to put a weak mind on its edge. “YUNG SIP”, the third member of the group, brings the dirt to the mix, with his ‘straight to the point’ grimy lyrics, he brings the pleasures and pains of street life for all to feel. Lastly, 7K “THA KOOL KAT” probably the pivotal member of the group. “SEV”
